Even in good gold country, some spots have more gold than others. The best looking spot may have been cleaned out yesterday by some other lucky prospector.

Use topographic maps to record sample results from your Gold Miser Sluice until you find a good spot with lots of gold. Take time to look around. Panning for 4 hours in a good spot will get you more gold than panning 8 hours in a bad spot.

The Gold Miser sluice was designed to separate fine gold from concentrates. The patented grooves can hold fine gold while allowing waste gravel and black sand to wash out.

Small particles of gold settle into a groove until they reach a point where they can touch both the back side and the front side of the groove. At that point, the flowing water cannot get behind the gold particle to push it out of the sluice.

Don't overload the grooves so that gold passes over them and out of the sluice. Don't use too much water flow. Flat flakes can flip in the current like kites in a wind and travel out of the sluice.
