Regardless of what pan you use, you will become a better gold panner when you understand and visualize the connection between gravel movement and the concentration of gold. Beginners and even some experienced panners have little, if any, understanding of this basic relationship.

The deeper you are in the gravel in the pan the less movement there is between particles. Less movement reduces or stops the concentration of gold and black sand.

Black sand and quartz are heavy and they are harder to agitate in the pan. They make it difficult for the gold particles to move down to the bottom "concentrating cavity".

To get more gold, you have to pan more gravel. To pan more gravel, it helps to "classify, classify, classify"!
